Reading nicotine strength labels

Percent, mg/mL and salt nicotine, explained without the jargon.

3 minute read

Labels list nicotine as a percentage or in milligrams per milliliter. They are the same number in different units: 5% equals 50 mg/mL, 2.4% equals 24 mg/mL, 1.6% equals 18 mg/mL.

Salt nicotine

Almost every disposable and prefilled pod uses salt nicotine. It is smoother at high strengths, which is why 5% is common in disposables.

Freebase nicotine

Freebase liquids for refillable kits usually run 3 to 12 mg/mL and are used with lower resistance coils.

Zero nicotine

Some disposables, like the RAZ LTX 25K Zero, come in 0%. They are still sold to adults 21 and over only.
